History

Heima Er Best has been a presence in Gimli since 1984, creating warm and wonderful homes for adults with developmental disabilities (vulnerable people).  Our homes are places of safety, security and warmth where each person we support receives encouragement and assistance to enable them to become all they can be.

Our mission statement: “Offering a variety of services for men and women living with an intellectual disability through all stages of their adult life, basing our services on a commitment to individual choice, personal dignity and full participation in the community.” A vulnerable person is defined as an adult over 18 years of age, who has a mental disability and who needs help with personal care or property and money management.

Our Agency is under the direction of an unpaid, volunteer Board of Directors. Our Directors donate hundreds of hours each year for the benefit of individuals entrusted to our care and ensure the good order, financial accountability and responsibility of the Agency.  Our Board consists of: Alan Dann, Chair; Jackie Sigurdur, Vice-chair; Daviette Noga, Treasurer; Rosalie Chobotar, Secretary; Danny Luprypa, John Wierda and Randy Woroniuk. Some of these dedicated people on our Board have served as members for ten to sixteen years.

Under the direction of the Board, our Executive Director: Janelle Hiebert, Residential Coordinator: Jessica Favell, Financial Manager: Shannon Greer, and Scheduler: Robbie Grant control and maintain the day-to-day agency operations.  We employ 13 full time and 19 part time and casual staff.

Our primary funding is through the Family Services and Labour Division of the Provincial Government
